Shamita Shetty is more popularly known as Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s sister. She has been a part of many discussions recently for taking part in the reality tv show Bigg Boss OTT. This actress’s acting career has been slow, and Colors Tv’s reality show will give her career the much-needed gear. 

Many of you might be seeing her on-screen after a long time; she made her debut in Bollywood with the 2000 film Mohabbatein. She was a part of reality shows on colors earlier, such as Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa in 2015 and Khatron Ke Khiladi in 2019. She is also mostly known for being the younger sister of actress Shilpa Shetty. 

Shamita Shetty’s Age and Family

She was born on 2 February 1979 in Mangalore in Karnataka. This 42-year-old actress was born to Surendra and Sunanda Shetty, who belong to the Tulu Bunt community. Her parents work in the pharmaceutical industry by manufacturing tamper-proof water caps. 

Shamita Shetty’s Sister

Shamita is the younger sister of Bollywood actress and fitness enthusiast Shilpa Shetty. Shilpa made her debut in the 1993 Bollywood film Baazigar with Shahrukh Khan and Kajol. Shilpa is Married to Businessman Raj Kundra. 

Her Education 

Shamita Shetty did her schooling in St. Anthony’s Girls’ High School in Mumbai. This actress graduated in Commerce from Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics, located in Mumbai, Maharashtra.  

Shamita also has a diploma in fashion designing from SNDT college in Mumbai. After finishing her course in Fashion Designing, Shamita did an internship with the ace fashion designer of Bollywood, Manish Malhotra. 

It was during her internship that Manish Malhotra suggested she try her hand in acting and asked her to prepare for the same.  

However, she wasn’t keen on acting and wanted to follow her passion for interior designing. Her first solo project was in 2011 when she designed the interior for Royalty, a club in Mumbai. She also has a diploma from Central Saint Martins and Inchbald School of Design located in London.

Bollywood Career

She made her Bollywood debut with 200 Yash Raj Films Movie Mohabbatein. Her role as Ishika got the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female in 2001. Aditya Chopra directed the film.

Later her fame reached new heights with dance numbers like “Sharara Sharara” in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, which was released in 2001, and “Chori Pe Chori” in Saathiya, released in 2002. 

Shamita was even nominated as the Star of the Year – Female at Stardust awards in 2006 for her performance in the film Zeher which was released in 2015. 

Shamita has also worked in Fareb with her elder sister Silpa.

Even though Shamita indulged herself in her passion for interior designing, she levitated back to the entertainment industry in 2009. She had appeared in the third season of the celebrity reality show Bigg Boss aired on 4 October 2009 on Colors. Amitabh Bachchan hosted that season. However, Shamita chose to opt-out from the show on 14 November 2009 to attend her sister Shilpa Shetty’s wedding. In her 41 days in the Bigg Boss House, she was not even nominated once.

Shamita also participated in a dance reality show of colors, Jhalak Dikhlaja, with her partner.

Shamita was also a part of the stunt reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi hosted by Rohit Shetty in 2019. She came as the top finalist.
